Eye Checkup

Eye Checkup

An eye exam involves a series of tests to evaluate your vision and healthcare professionals check for eye diseases. Your eye doctor may use a variety of instruments, shine bright lights directly at your eyes and request that you look through an array of lenses. Each test during an eye exam evaluates a different aspect of your vision or eye health. An eye exam helps detect eye problems at their earliest stage — when they’re most treatable. Regular eye exams give your eye care professional a chance to help you correct or adapt to vision changes and provide you with tips on caring for your eyes. Several factors may determine how frequently you need an eye exam, including your age, health and risk of developing eye problems.

Children Eye Care Services

Children Eye Care Services

For children under 3, your paediatrician will most likely look for the most common eye problems — lazy eye, crossed eyes or misaligned eyes. If there are eye concerns or symptoms, an ophthalmological examination is appropriate at that time regardless of age at an eye hospital. Your child could undergo a more comprehensive eye exam between the ages of 3 and 5. Have your child’s vision checked before he or she enters first grade. If your child has no symptoms of vision problems and no family history of vision problems, have his or her vision rechecked every 1 to 2 years. Otherwise, schedule eye exams based on the advice of your eye doctor.

Low Vision & Rehabilitation Services

Low Vision & Rehabilitation Services

Low vision refers to vision loss that cannot be corrected by medical or surgical treatments or conventional eyeglasses. A person with low vision must learn to adjust to it. The positive news is that there are many ways to help so that people with low vision can continue to do things that are important to them. Losing vision does not mean giving up activities, but it may mean learning new ways to do them. Vision rehabilitation helps patients to learn new strategies and find devices that can assist them. Don’t isolate yourself. Keep your social group, job or outside activities.

Cataract & IOL Services

Cataract & IOL Services

In cataract surgery, the lens inside your eye that has become cloudy is surgically removed and replaced with an artificial lens (called an intraocular lens, or IOL) to restore clear vision. The procedure typically is performed on an outpatient basis and does not require an overnight stay in our hospital and paying patients are placed in day care rooms. Outstation patients may need to stay overnight in our deluxe rooms. Two types of surgical interventions are offered at TCF Eye Hospital for treating Cataract:

  • SICS -Small Incision Cataract Surgery
  • Phaco emulsification Cataract Surgery

Glaucoma assessment & treatment

Glaucoma assessment & treatment

In assessing your glaucoma, the ophthalmologist will dilate your eyes so that he or she can get a magnified, 3D view of your optic nerve. This helps to determine the status of your optic nerves and glaucoma. He or she will assess the shape, colour, depth, size, and vessels of the optic nerve. In order to avoid such irreversible visual debilitation, it is important to have your eyes examined for glaucoma by an ophthalmologist, especially if you carry some of the known risk factors, such as family history of the disease. It is crucial to have some basic understanding of the tests for glaucoma so that you can make an informed decision about your treatment options under the guidance of your doctor. Some of the tests are outlined below:

  1. Eye Pressure Check
  2. Visual Field Test
  3. Glaucoma Imaging Tests
  4. The Dilated Eye Exam
  5. Corneal Thickness and “Angle” Tests
