According to the National Blindness and Visual Impairment Survey conducted in 2007, the prevalence of blindness in people of all ages was estimated to be 0.78% in Nigeria. Not only does blindness hinder the quality of life the reason but also impacts the socio-economic conditions of the family, community and the nation. According to experts, “If priority attention is not given, the number of blind and severely visually impaired adults in Nigeria will increase by greater than 40 per cent over the next decade. As part of its Mission for Vision, since 1992, TCF is implementing Eye Care program addressing the issue of avoidable blindness in Nigeria. TCF has a track record of providing high quality Eye Care to people irrespective of their socio – economic conditions and so far, conducted more than 116,200 free eye surgeries. TCF Eye Hospitals are the highly reliable and cost free option for quality eye care services to the disadvantaged and remote Nigerian population. The Eye Surgeons chosen by TCF are highly motivated, committed and experienced individuals from India. TCF currently manages and run 2 eye care programs one in Birnin Kebbi and one in Calabar doing 5,000 free surgeries per year.

TCF embarked on a journey to establish a specialty Eye Hospital eventually envisioning to be a centre of Excellence

Tulsi Chanrai Foundation (TCF) with the Mission to ensure healthy Nigeria have been playing an instrumental role in enhancing accessibility, affordability and effectiveness of health care services in remote areas of Nigeria. TCF thrust areas are restoring sight, providing access to primary health care and providing safe drinking water.
